Where on earth does time go?? It's already been 3 weeks, and we're finished with our SOWER-do list here at the camp and ready to move on to our next adventure! It will be extremely sad leaving this camp, as it has been more than wonderful to be housed in this beautiful, gated, Christian environment this month. However, we DO look forward to next years return!
We have been so Blessed to serve at TWL, and it is obvious that God has really brought this camp to what it is today. This was our first time as GLs (group leaders) and God Blessed us with a great couple to work with! Thank you Perry and Gail for making this your project as well!
TWL had MANY things on their ‘SOWER-DO” list, as they struggle to keep up with all the maintenance needs in the summer when camp is in full swing (500 kids per camp week). We fixed and stained picnic tables, stained numerous dining room chairs, stained fences, and reconstructed 4 outdoor building sheds that were in disrepair due to porcupine chewing. Resurfacing the wood, staining, cleaning and new wood on these building took the full three weeks. The next group may get to put new roofs and steel siding on. The ladies helped with everything above, as well as watered 80 hanging plants many days to help give the regular ladies some days off.
The host provided us with a UTV for the duration (because the camp is huge!) and also welcomed us to take the paths around the property on our time off!
We worked hard, ate with the crew, and enjoyed the serenity of the beautiful campground they made for all their volunteers. They even held an end-of-camp picnic for the staff, invited us, and they opened up the electric go-carts! Mark even had an opportunity to share some telescope viewing with the staff!
I hope this camp gets more SOWER volunteers next year. It’s a beautiful place, and they really need and appreciate our help. And if you know of anyone wanting to go to camp or reserve a spot at this camp for weddings, conferences, etc, give them a call!
